On The Ice: NHL Weekly Roundup

The NHL is in full swing, and at this stage we can start to work out who is looking good to make the postseason. We are back with all the news from those games. The team has studied everything you need to know, and more so keep reading for the lowdown on the NHL.

Calgary Flames 5-2 New Jersey Devils

The Flames added a priceless victory to their season record in this game. It was very much a team performance with five different players on the scoresheet. Their main man in this game was Noah Hanifin. He was on point with a goal and two assists as the Flames scored four in the second period to all but put this one to bed.

Flames to beat Blues next time out

The Devils added another defeat to an already disappointing season in the NHL. That leaves them at 4-6-4 for the season and it would really shock our Hockey markets if they made the Play Offs. In reality, nobody ever predicted they would make it all the way, but their fans will be disappointed as their team sits down in last position in the NHL Metropolitan Division. We expect them to lose again when they face the high-flying Oilers.

Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 Vancouver Canucks

The Blackhawks made sure that the opposition goaltender Jacob Markstrom had a busy game, and he did well to keep the score down to five. Kane added two assists and a goal after an industrious performance right from the outset. That left Chicago with a season record of 5-7-3. Although it only keeps them in 2nd bottom spot in the NHL Central Division, it was a massive win for them.

Penguins to beat Blackhawks in the next round of fixtures

The Canucks came into this game expecting a win to add to their record and will be hugely upset that it didn’t turn out that way. This was a shock to our betting markets as, if you compare the two sides’ records, you would have predicted the Canucks would add their 10th win of the season. They are now placed in 3rd in the NHL Pacific Division and need to bounce back next time out against the Jets.

Arizona Coyotes 2-3 Columbus Blue Jackets

The Coyotes came close to taking the win here, so their defeat will sting. Goals from Jakob Chychrun and Carl Soderburg in the first two periods kept the game tied. Arizona then slipped up in the third to allow another defeat. Their season record of 9-5-2 is better than average, but nothing less than a win will do next time when they face the Wild.

The Blue Jackets fought hard to take the victory, and it’s one they needed in a big way. It still leaves them second-bottom in the NHL Metropolitan Division, but it gives fans some hope they can grind out the odd result when facing stronger opposition. The challenge coming in the form of the Avalanche will be a whole other mountain to climb, and we can only see them losing.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 Vegas Golden Knights

The Maple Leafs left it to overtime to settle this game. It was a tepid affair with both regular time goals coming in the last period. The Maple Leafs climbed up to second, behind the Bruins, in the NHL Atlantic Division. The Sabres are behind them with two games in hand, so they must win when they face the Flyers next time out.

The Golden Knights needed something from this one, though their 9-5-3 for the season is far from terrible. It keeps them in fourth spot in the NHL Pacific Division, and they can take encouragement from this appearance. The next opponent means a tricky tie as they face the Flyers. Toronto will need to put in a first-class performance to take a win, and we predict they will do just that.
