The 2020 MLS season is almost upon us again, with sides up and down the country already in the full swing of high profile roster changes and preseason warm up fixtures. Along with a big draft coup, one thing that never fails to hype fans up is the annual release of each and every new kit for the campaign ahead. Last week, the MLS gathered up the biggest bunch of former professionals and viral stars to produce one of the coolest kit reveal events North America has ever seen.
We’ve picked out five of the best looking kits from all around this year’s Western Conference and ranked them down below.
The Rapids kick off our list here with a very sleek and smart take on their classic burgundy and light blue combination. As well as having such a stunning combination of base colours to work with, the shirt also features a ‘C’ on the back collar and is embodied with the silver 9 stars to show that the side are one of the league’s founding fathers.
After a run of ten losses and no wins in their opening twelve games, Colorado faced a real uphill battle in their hunt for the postseason. Despite a reasonable run in the second half of the campaign they ultimately closed the season in 9th, 6 points off the Play Offs. You can currently find odds on them to be crowned as MLS Cup Champions at +10,000.
Dallas have returned to their classic vintage roots with this red and blue hooped themed shirt. The light red and blue contrast nicely against eachother and work really well alongside the new Adidas stripes brought in for the first time this year. Late owner Lamar Hunt has been paid homage to as well in the kit, with the great man’s initials nice and visible on the front in a touching tribute.
The Toros finished last season with a heartbreaking 4-3 a.e.t. loss on the road against Seattle in the postseason, having only scraped through in 7th place in the Western Conference and 13th overall. That being said, they only lost once at home across the entire campaign. You can currently find odds on them to be crowned as MLS Cup Champions at +4,000.
The Sounders stand for preserving the Puget Sound area of Washington, employing countless renewable and sustainable initiatives and becoming known as one of the greenest clubs in the world. Their kit this year perfectly captures that feel, fading out a lay light green base with some hints of white and the distinctive blue collars.
It was another triumphant season for the Sounders, adding yet another MLS Cup to their collection after a thrilling 3-1 win at CenturyLink Field. After a fairly middling campaign record of 16-10-8, Seattle really began to turn it on, defying our series of postseason MLS predictions against Supporters Shield winners LAFC en route to the final. You can find odds on Sounders retaining their cup at +700.
Lying in the heartlands of some of North America’s most tranquil and picturesque spots, Vancouver have ditched the heavy white look from the previous campaign for a far more deep blue feel here. The dark and light blues contrast beautifully against eachother and really capture the huge scoping mountain peaks and wild waves of the surrounding area.
A run of just 1 win in 13 across May, June and July was really the undoing of the Whitecaps’ 2019 regular season. They finished the campaign with 34 points from their 34 games and were sat in 23rd in the overall league table. You can get odds on them winning the 2020 MLS Cup at +10,000.
The Timbers have always been one of Major League Soccer’s most stylish sides, and this year’s EQT kit really highlights the club’s close connection to the northern timber industry. With a shade of grey along the top shoulders, green stripes and collars across a white base, it’s a perfect blend of old and new.
5 losses and 1 draw in their opening 6 games made it look like the Timbers could have been on for a rough ride in 2019, however their steely experience shone through and they finished reasonably comfortably within the postseason. Real Salt Lake overcame them in the first round on that ocassion, and you can find odds on the Timbers finding MLS Cup glory this year at +3300.
