Three MLS Cup finals in four years, two wins in that time, and a whole host of expectation in our MLS betting odds heading to Orlando. Looks set to be another fun campaign for Sounders fans around the country.
They might have been playing second fiddle to LAFC during the 2019 MLS regular season, finishing sixteen points behind them at the close of the Western Conference, but Seattle are a side that can always turn it on when the going gets tough. The Sounders came up against Dallas (+2500), Real Salt Lake (+2200) and Los Angeles (+450) in the postseason, and managed to overcome them all before another MLS Cup final against Toronto.
The third time these two teams had clashed in the past four finals, we edged out the Sounders as favourites in our MLS betting tips and they romp out to a 3-1 win with goals from Kevin Leerdam, Víctor Rodríguez and Raúl Ruidíaz.
The Sounders began their cup defence solidly enough too, coming from behind in both their opening games of the 2020 regular season.
Jordan Morris has been one of the Sounders’ most legendary home grown players in recent times. The 25-year old Seattle native had his entire career thrown into uncertainty after a horror injury to his ACL in February 2018, but proved his strength and determination by coming back in time for the 2019 season, where he hit 13 goals in 30 appearances which included a hattrick against F.C. Dallas (+2500) in the postseason play offs.
Morris has taken his good form into 2020 too, netting 4 goals in 3 games before the season’s postponement.
Being one of the Western Conference’s seeded sides, the Sounders have what looks to be one of the easier groups to navigate through. They share Group B with play off rivals F.C. Dallas, Vancouver Whitecaps (+6600) and San Jose Earthquakes (+2500).
We’ve picked out the Sounders’ opening game against the Earthquakes on July 10 as the one to watch out for. Opening games of tournaments are always a good indicator for how a team is shaping up for the competition, and a nervy performance for Seattle might just swing a few MLS predictions for the side.
Behind Bob Bradley’s LAFC, Seattle head to Orlando as the favourite for the trophy with odds of +750, joint with Atlanta United.
Whilst sides like Atlanta, Galaxy, LAFC and NYCFC might boast some of the most star-studded names in North America, there’s no denying that, when it comes to crunch time in a cup competition, the Sounders know how to turn it on better than most.
What do you make of Seattle heading into the tournament? Will they be able to deliver the goods and edge their way past the very best? The MLS Is Back Cup promises to be an exciting and unpredictable tournament which we cannot wait to begin covering as all the unfolds!
