The NBA is back basketball fans and the opening games have already provided us with talking points aplenty, here are the key results and moments from round one:
The result of the Clippers & Lakers game was always going to get people talking, with both teams tipped to challenge for the championship title this season. Kawhi Leonard made his Clippers debut scoring 30 points in the 112-102 victory over their Los Angeles rivals. Leonard won last season’s title with the Raptors and he would have been encouraged by his Clippers team mates display, with a strong effort coming from the bench. Of course, it’s incredibly early days but the LA Clippers’ win over the Lakers sent out a huge message to the rest of the West and the NBA.
Brooklyn Nets could be a bit of a force to be reckoned with this season with the additions of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
Durant of course is currently injured and will have to wait to make his Nets debut but Kyrie Irving gave Nets fans a glimpse of what is to come this season from him with Irving scoring 50 points in the 127-126 overtime defeat to Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Irving shot 17 off 33 from the field in his first game and the 50 point haulage was the most a Nets player has ever made on their debut.
Toronto kicked off their title celebration night and opening game with a win against the New Orleans Pelicans. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for Toronto, with the Raptors looking completely disorganized in the first few possessions. If there was any doubt that the Raptors would miss Kawhi Leonard, then this game put that thought to bed. Toronto eventually closed the overtime session on an 8-0 run for a 130-122 victory.
