NBA Review: Who Came Out on Top This Week

Felix J Banks    Felix J Banks     November 8, 2019

Welcome back to the weekly roundup from all over the league NBA fans. There were highs and lows for various teams this last week. Now it’s time to take a look at how those games unfolded and what we can expect next time. Let’s get into our top picks for the games just passed right now.

Utah Jazz 106-104 Philadelphia 76ers

The Jazz returned home for this game after two defeats on the road and a more than unhappy set of fans. Too many offensive rebounds allowed both the Sacramento Kings and the LA Clippers to make the most of their lapses. They put some time in this week, and it paid off for them as they returned home in this one. The 76ers are well-known for scoring on the rebound, so it was just in time for Utah.

The 76ers will be disappointed, but this game was tight and in truth, could have gone either way in the end. They lost Ben Simmons for the second half with a shoulder injury, and that undoubtedly had an impact on their potency. The Jazz were already ahead in the game by then, but we will never know what might have happened had he stayed on.

The Jazz are now 5-3 for the season and up to 4th spot in the NBA Western Conference. Next up sees them face the Bucks in a game we are backing them to win. The Sixers are now on a two-game losing streak and have slipped down to 4th spot in the Eastern Conference. They will face the Nuggets, and our money is on them to bounce back with a win.

Charlotte Hornets 87-108 Boston Celtics

It was an emotional night for the Hornets as they saw their all-time top scorer return home to face them. The game started with a fitting tribute, which left the now Celtics man Kemba Walker close to tears. It was a fantastic gesture from the Hornets, and it shows how much they miss their star man. They could have done with him being on their side in this one, though. Boston went down without much of a fight to a Celtics team growing in confidence.

The Celtics top scorer for the game was no Walker as he had a very quiet game by his All-Star standards. Maybe the emotions of the game got the better of him. The Celtics didn’t need to worry as Jayson Tatum racked up 23 points. Gordon Hayward pitched in to with 20 points and ten rebounds for the game.

The season record reads 4-4 for the Hornets, and they are down to 6th in the NBA Eastern Conference. They will play a home game against the Pelicans next and should win that one. The Celtics are now top of the division with a season record of 6-1. It’s the Spurs next in a game that we predict they will win again.

San Antonio Spurs 121-112 Oklahoma City Thunder

The Spurs went into this home game looking for a positive result, and the team duly delivered. It wasn’t an easy game for them, but they saw it out comfortably in the end. The Thunder led the game for most of the first and second quarter, but mistakes crept into their play, and they allowed the Spurs back into it.

That mistake after mistake from the Thunder let the Spurs back in. Oklahoma can take some positives out of this game, but it was a fantastic opportunity to register an upset. They need to improve on offensive rebounds if they want to progress. The highlight for them was the performance from Danilo Gallinari, who put in 27 points.

The Spurs will face the Celtics next in a game they could lose, as we already predicted. They are now 8th in the NBA Western Conference with a record of 5-3. The Thunder are down in 11th position and have a 3-5 for the year. Next up for them is Warriors, which we can’t see them getting anything out of.
