The Main Event – UFC Fight Night 169: Joseph Benavidez vs Deiveson Figueiredo

Admin    Admin     February 25, 2020

The UFC returns this weekend with another mouth-watering UFC Fight Night line-up. The vacant flyweight title is up for grabs as former titleholder Henry Cejudo decided to relinquish the belt in order to pursue title defences for his Bantamweight title. Number one ranked flyweight Joseph Benavidez will prepare to battle it out against Deiveson Figueiredo to claim the recently vacant flyweight belt in Norfolk, Virginia on the 29th February. Bet Today USA has all the action with all your MMA Predictions here.

Main Event: Joseph Benavidez (-139) vs Deiveson Figueiredo (+115)

The vacant UFC Flyweight title belt will find a new waist to wrap around this weekend, as Benavidez will be plying his trade against Deiveson Figueiredo. UFC Flyweight warrior and knockout artist Deiveson Figueiredo must have thought he had struck gold when it was announced that he’d face off for the vacant championship belt. The Brazilian, owning a record of (17-1-0) with only one blemish on his fight card, courtesy of a unanimous decision going against him in 2019, has won via TKO 8 times and submission 6.

Joseph Benavidez has been second-best in the flyweight division since it was created, forcing the American to accept the silver medal throughout the years. He fell short to Demetrious Johnson twice but did fly out of the blocks against Henry Cejudo, eventually winning via decision. ‘Joey Two Times’ is on a three-fight win streak and dispatched Jussier Formiga with an impressive TKO.

The main championship bout looks to be another exciting affair as both fighters favour the finishing option. UFC predictions have put Benavidez as the slight favourite but never overlook Figueiredo, as he has lit up the octagon with his TKO record.

Benavidez is the better wrestler and the more technical striker, but Deus da Guerra has dynamite in his fists and has the ability to put body on canvass. Both fighters hold an arsenal of differing weapons but Benavidez has the gas in his tank to go the distance.

Joseph Benavidez to win via decision

Zarah Fairn (+500) vs Felicia Spencer (-770)

Felicia Spencer tasted her first professional defeat in the co-main event of UFC 240 where she fell short to a decision to Cris Cyborg. Despite the loss, the Canadian excelled in just her second UFC fight. In Spencer’s UFC debut, she caused a swing performing a first-round submission win over Megan Anderson. Spencer is the former Invicta FC featherweight champion and believes if she can make short work of Fairn, then a title shot against Amanda Nunes is on the cards.

Zarah Fairn dos Santos has (6-3-0) pasted on her fight card and she will be looking to punch out another result in the win section this weekend. Her last throw-down in the eight walls of death ended up in a submission defeat to Anderson. It was the Parisian’s first fight in almost two years after competing in the European regional scenes. In her career, she has demonstrated clearly she has some knockout power in her locker but has struggled with the stagnant competition in the division.

UFC picks have Spencer as the favourite and lean heavily towards a first or second-round submission of Fairn.

Spencer to win via submission

Ion Cutelaba (+160) vs Magomed Ankalaev (-200)

Ion Cutelaba is coasting into this fight after an elbow TKO against Khalil Rountree Jr, and will be planning to outfox opponent Magomed Ankalaev with the momentum he received aff his last win. Anaklaev is also coming back off a knockout win, astonishingly trumping Ion’s. The Russian faced Dalcha Lungiambula and in the third round came a devastating front kick which quickly buried Lungiambula.

Both fighters are lethal strikers but also are skilled in powerful grapple game. Regardless of their strong grappling skills, both men might try and find a finish on their feet or even in a clinch. Neither men have been knocked out before, so this has the possibility of going to the wire.

Ankalev to win via knockout in the 3rd Round
